The Wine
Little Wine #11 brings together seven vintages, spanning 2015 through 2021, from six individual parcels within Hoffmann’s Dallwitz Vineyard. The blend is 2021 (46%), 2020 (18%), 2019 (16%), 2018 (2%), 2017 (9%), 2016 (5%) and 2015 (4%).
The vineyard material is exceptional. Fruit comes from vines planted in 1996, 1995, 1994, 1960 and 1927, together with vines predating 1912. This range of vine age and vintage gives Fraser McKinley an unusually broad palette: vibrant younger Syrah layered over smaller components that have already spent several years evolving in cask. Just 6,427 bottles were filled.
Compared with #9, #11 is darker and more structured. Blackberry, dark cherry and currant are joined by iodine, graphite, iron, paprika, fennel and savoury earth. There is considerable concentration, but the tannins remain finely shaped and the finish has the freshness necessary to carry that intensity.
Little Wine may be the more approachable Sami-Odi bottling conceptually, but #11 demonstrates that it is anything but a second wine.

This is one of the more powerful Little Wine releases. The 2021 component gives it plenty of drive, while the older material broadens the palate and adds complexity that a single vintage simply couldn’t replicate. For anyone building a Sami-Odi collection, the Little Wines are fascinating to follow because each assemblage is genuinely unique.
