The Wine

The 2016 Hoffmann Dallwitz was drawn from DW-OLD and McKinley’s original rows in the neighbouring DW-95VSP planting. The official winery note calls 2016 a gorgeously balanced season and describes the wine as a sleek, vibrant expression of the Hoffmann holdings, with high-toned fragrance and a framework for extended cellaring. It spent 81 weeks in 17 Burgundian pièces before bottling, again without filtration, fining or sparging, and with gravity handling throughout. Yields were 32 to 35 hectolitres per hectare and only 4,791 bottles were filled.

Cellared Says

This has always looked like one of the great cellaring Sami-Odis. There is plenty of immediate appeal, but the structure and shape suggest it will reward patience in a big way.

Reviews

James Suckling, 98 points — Suckling’s published note points to dark chocolate, mocha, blackberry and plum fruit, with freshness and a powerful, profound finish.
