The Wine

Pompadour Réserve introduces a contemporary Champagne Maison with more than two decades of preparation behind it. Launched in 2025, Maison Pompadour grew from the separate vinification and cellaring of wines from the historic Clos Pompadour in Reims.

The cuvée brings together Champagne’s three principal varieties, but its most distinctive feature is the liqueur d’expédition—the wine-based dosage added after disgorgement.

Here, the dosage wine is treated as a separate cuvée. It combines rare reserve wines from the Clos Pompadour collection of vintage magnums spanning 2004–2013 with the Clos Pompadour perpetual reserve. This careful selection brings both mature flavour and a connection to the historic vineyard into the finished Champagne.

Extended ageing develops toasted and savoury complexity around ripe yellow fruit, floral notes, vanilla and white pepper. The palate is broad and full, with a distinctly dry balance, chalky minerality and a firm, appetising finish.

It is a Champagne whose character reflects the patient assembly of several elements: fresh fruit, mature reserve wines and an unusually considered dosage.

Cellared Says

An interesting new Maison and a distinctive approach to reserve-wine complexity. Réserve has a savoury, broad and dry profile, with the older Clos Pompadour material adding serious vinous depth.

Enjoy now.

Reviews

“Light-medium brassy straw colour; earthy/dusty and toasted bread characters from time on lees; the palate is full and broad, fairly dry in its balance but not especially creamy in mouth-feel. It does have champagne character and an appetisingly dry aftertaste but it seems a trifle pinched, probably because of the phenolics.”
92 points — Huon Hooke, The Real Review

“A champagne with the freshness but also the complexity of maturity.”
