Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint Aubin 1er Cru Hommage à Marguerite 2023

$271.00

Region: Burgundy
Sub Region: Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Variety: Chardonnay
Country: France
Vintage: 2023

The Wine

A multi-site 1er Cru blend from three high-quality Saint-Aubin climats: Combes, Perrières and Les Créots. These sites sit at higher altitude above Puligny and Chassagne, on thinner limestone-rich soils that deliver wines with naturally higher acidity, tension and salinity.

The cuvée was first created in 2016, named in tribute to Colin-Morey’s grandmother. Across the parcels (totalling over 1 hectare), the focus is on low yields and precise picking to retain freshness in what can be a variable appellation.

Winemaking is classic PYCM: whole-bunch pressing, wild fermentation in 350L barrels, no lees stirring and extended elevage on fine lees. A portion of the wine is transferred to tank before bottling to refine texture and control reduction, a hallmark of the domaine’s modern approach.

Cellared Says

Saint-Aubin is no longer a “step down” in the right hands. This sits much closer to Puligny in style than price, and it’s one of the smartest buys in the PYCM range.

Reviews

The 2023 Saint-Aubin Hommage à Marguerite 1er Cru, a blend of Combe, Perrières and Craillot, is delightful, fresh and saline with subtle notes of sea spray and white peaches. The palate is well balanced with a tangy opening, and lively peach nuances develop toward the finish. This is harmonious and quite irresistible already. Recommended. (91-93) points - Neal Martin

The 2023 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Hommage à Marguerite is fleshy and charming, bursting with aromas of pear, buttered toast and sweet citrus fruit, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate with a satiny attack and a saline finish. This will offer a broad drinking window.
