The Wine

Poruzots is one of Meursault’s great structured Premier Crus and a site Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey handles exceptionally well. The domaine works with parcels in the upper section of Poruzots-Dessus, beneath the Narvaux vineyards, where thinner limestone soils and cooler exposition produce wines with more tension and longevity than the broader style often associated with Meursault.

The vines range from plantings in the early 1970s through to the 1990s, with low yields and careful vineyard management focused on preserving acidity and phenolic balance. As with all PYCM wines, the fruit is hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in 350-litre barrels using indigenous yeasts.

Winemaking is highly precise and reductive in style: no bâtonnage, restrained new oak and long élevage on fine lees, followed by time in tank before bottling to refine texture and manage dissolved oxygen. It is often one of the most mineral, saline and long-lived wines in the PYCM Meursault range.

Cellared Says

This is Meursault for people who value structure and minerality over easy richness. Poruzots nearly always rewards patience, and PYCM’s version has become one of the benchmark examples of the vineyard. 1 bottle.

Reviews

“The 2023 Meursault Poruzots 1er Cru has a more backward bouquet at first, opening with sea cave and almost flinty scents. The palate is vibrant and citrus-fresh with a fine line of acidity and a vibrant saline finish that fans out beautifully. What a superb Meursault from Jobard—highly recommended.”
93–95 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.
