Paul Prieur et Fils Pieuchaud Silex Sancerre 2019
Region: Sancerre
Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
Country: France
Vintage: 2019
The Wine
From 40-year-old vines planted on flinty silex soils, fermented in fiber glass tank with wild yeasts, and aged 15 month, 80% of this in 1600L wooden vats, 20% in 600L. This wine delivers razor-sharp minerality and citrus-fruit purity, but with a generous mid palate and unnerving power.
Cellared Says
Struck match, invigorating and precise, with lime pith, green apple, gooseberry and sea-spray salinity—classic Silex Sancerre. There’s a thought that Sauvignon Blanc doesn’t age very well, that’s not true. Having worked with the Loire Valley Wines association for over 8 years, and visited the region numerous times I can attest that well made, powerful and vinous examples of SB age extreme well, only getting richer and more complex. This is a wonderful wine, still in its youth but starting to show some of that mid palate fattening. great stuff from a standout producer.
Wine Reviews
“Steely flint, lime pith and green apple, with a crisp, refined mineral finish.”
92 Points – Decanter
