The Wine
This is the third release of Nicole Lamarche’s Côtes de Nuits-Villages and part of the expanding négociant range she created to bring her finesse-driven style to a broader collection of Burgundy terroirs. Lamarche works with organic growers whose vineyard standards mirror her own, then handles the wines with the same gentle extraction and restrained élevage used at the domaine.
Nicole has deliberately kept the exact source quiet, but the vineyard lies on rocky limestone slopes south of Prémeaux. This southern end of the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation runs through Prémeaux-Prissey, Comblanchien and Corgoloin, where limestone and clay soils can produce Pinot Noir with genuine Côte de Nuits character without the price attached to the better-known village names.
The 2023 is pure and immediately inviting: silky red fruit, fresh raspberry, fine spice and delicate tannins rather than extraction or weight. It is a very Lamarche interpretation of the appellation—perfumed, fluid and fine-boned, with enough limestone tension to keep the wine moving through the finish.

Exactly the sort of Burgundy that makes sense at this level. You are buying Nicole Lamarche’s touch and good Côte de Nuits limestone rather than paying for a famous village name. Pure, fragrant Pinot with genuine pedigree and enough structure to develop for several years. The 2022 was sublime for the money, the 2023 really isn’t far from the tree. Excellent wines that make you believe in Burgundy again.
