The Wine

Blewitt Springs has emerged as one of Australia's most distinctive Shiraz terroirs, producing wines of perfume, freshness and structure rather than sheer power. Ministry of Clouds sources fruit from old-vine vineyards rooted in the region's deep sandy soils, a combination that consistently delivers lifted aromatics and remarkable finesse.

The fruit is hand-picked and wild fermented with a proportion of whole bunches retained depending on the season. Extraction is gentle, with extended time on skins before maturation in seasoned French oak puncheons. The objective is to capture vineyard expression rather than impose winemaking character.

The 2022 vintage offered excellent growing conditions, producing wines of balance, freshness and detail. The resulting Shiraz sits comfortably at the more refined end of the McLaren Vale spectrum.

Cellared Says

Blewitt Springs continues to produce some of Australia's most exciting Shiraz, (and Grenache) and Ministry of Clouds understands exactly how to handle it. This is all about fragrance, spice and drinkability rather than brute force. A big fan of this wine, we’ve been pouring this at corporate events for many a year and feel it just gets better and better. Terrific value.
