Massolino Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva 2019
Region: Serralunga d’Alba, Piedmont
Variety: Nebbiolo
Country: Italy
Vintage: 2019
The Wine
Massolino, one of Barolo’s most esteemed families, has cultivated 3.5 hectares in the legendary Vigna Rionda vineyard since the mid-20th century. This site, with its high limestone content and iron-rich Lequio Formation soils, yields wines of profound structure and finesse. Only a third of the production is bottled as Vigna Rionda Riserva—meticulously selected fruit, fermented in large oak fermenters, aged exclusively in large casks for 2.5 years, then further matured in bottle before release.
Cellared Says
Restrained power, deep deep complexity. Powerfully built yet breathtakingly refined. Deep, dark fruited, savory edges and wonderfully aromatic, with seamless tannins and that regal 2019 energy, verve and tension. Tasted Aug 25.
Wine Reviews
“The Massolino 2019 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is quite special in that it offers dark fruit, tar, campfire ash and burnt ember... a very beautiful mouthfeel with a glossy sheen to the tannins.”
97 Points – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
“The 2019 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a wine of elegance and poise… bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, white pepper and mint build nicely as this shows off its charms.”
96 Points – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
“A slightly old‑fashioned and aromatic wine with notes of coffee grounds, leather, prunes and licorice... poised and balanced despite its structure. Try from 2026.”
96 Points – James Suckling
