The Wine
Parussi is the outsider in the Massolino cellar—the estate’s only Barolo cru beyond Serralunga d’Alba. The vineyard lies immediately across the boundary in Castiglione Falletto, on a ridge at approximately 290 metres, with excellent exposure running from south-east through south-west. Massolino first bottled Parussi separately in 2007.
Its geology provides the real contrast. The blue, iron-rich Sant’Agata marls contain more silt and less clay than Massolino’s Serralunga vineyards, creating more vigorous vines and a different expression of Nebbiolo. The result typically shows greater aromatic breadth and a long, structured Castiglione Falletto finish rather than the darker, more austere mineral character of Serralunga.
Old vines, now approaching 60 years in the key parcels, provide depth. The 2022 was the last fruit harvested at Massolino and underwent the same traditional élevage as the other crus: fermentation in large wooden vats followed by long maturation in large oak casks.
In a vintage often characterised by lighter wines, Parussi has an unusual level of concentration and textural presence—red and purple fruit, dried flowers, rose, herbs and white pepper delivered with remarkable lift.

The standout of Massolino’s 2022 Barolos. Parussi used to feel like the interesting outlier in the range; today it is a genuine rival to the great Serralunga crus. The 2022 makes that case emphatically—more depth, texture and completeness than you would expect from the vintage, while retaining Massolino’s trademark finesse. Highly recommended.
