Massolino Barolo Margheria 2021
Region: Serralunga d’Alba, Piedmont
Variety: Nebbiolo
Country: Italy
Vintage: 2021
The Wine
Planted in the 1960s and 70s, Massolino’s 1.5-ha Margheria plot sits over chalky, calcium-rich soils at 280 meters elevation. The 2021 vintage benefits from cool-elevated freshness that preserved florals and red fruit clarity. Fermented in large oak casks and matured accordingly, the wine balances red fruit generosity with mineral tension.
Cellared Says
Chambolle-style elegance wrapped in Barolo structure. Floral and vivid, beautifully plush with spice and clarity—impresses with immediacy and depth. Serious power and depth, line and poised finish is something else. A great expression of the soon to be dubbed, legendry 2021 vintage.
Wine Reviews
It reveals aromas of forest berry and wild cherry with candied orange, flint and crushed granite. I also find toasted aniseed at the back. The team at Massolino has done great work managing the tannins that feel quite silky and long, rendering a glossy sheen to the finish.”
96 Points – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
“This has lovely aromas of blueberries, pine resin, orange rind and a touch of lavender. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with supple tannins in the context of the vintage. It has a seductive, tender, well-integrated fruit profile that makes it very attractive.”
