Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Grèves 'Le Clos Blanc' 2022
Region: Beaune, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy
Variety: Chardonnay
Country: France
Vintage: 2022
The Wine
'Le Clos Blanc' is a unique monopole within the predominantly red wine-producing Grèves vineyard. Planted exclusively with Chardonnay by Louis Jadot in 1986, this site benefits from light, sandy soils that impart finesse and minerality to the wine. It sits above the other 1er Crus on a steep rocky slope of thin limestone soils with bedrock close beneath. Here the fruit is rich and expressive yet full of mineral character.
The 2022 vintage underwent gentle pressing, followed by fermentation and aging in French oak barrels, one-third of which were new, for 15 months. This approach preserves the wine's freshness while adding complexity and depth.
Cellared says
The 2022 'Le Clos Blanc' is a blindingly pristine, precise and fine example of white Burgundy from Beaune's Grèves vineyard. We tried this alongside the Grand Cru and other 1er Cru releases and quite honestly this held it own at a fraction of the price. We recently showed this at a high end French client tasting and for me it was wine of the night and that was up against some much grander appellations. Sure it’s not Meursault or another highly sought appellation but if you are looking for exceptional quality at, yes I’ll say it, a value price, this is an absolute no brainer.
Its combination of ripe orchard fruit, floral blossom notes, and rather saucy, expensive oak integration exemplifies the elegance and uniqueness of this monopole.
Wine Reviews
92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, William Kelley
"Wafting from the glass with notes of pear, toasted nuts, white flowers, freshly baked bread and iodine, the 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes Blanc (Domaine Gagey) is medium to full-bodied, tangy and incisive, with racy acids and a tightly wound core of fruit. It’s one cuvée that will really reward a bit of patience." Drink 2025 - 2035
90-92/100 Inside Burgundy, Jasper Morris MW
"A fuller yellow, with a softer nose, almost buttery, rather attractive. This is quite gentle at the front of the palate, gains in weight further behind, with a mix of light acidity and slight youthful bitterness. The Beaune Bressandes Blanc remains a discreet wine but attractive. Drink from 2027-2032."
"This marvellous wine has richness to spare but no lack of balance. There are aromas of ripe pear, quince, and apricot."
