Loïc Mahé Vents d’Ouest 2021
Region: Anjou–Côteaux-de-la-Loire
Variety: Cabernet Franc / Gamay
Country: France
Vintage: 2021
The Wine
Biodynamically farmed on schist and volcanic-sand soils, this blend sees wild fermentation in tank with a brief maceration of 3–6 days and no added sulphur. The style expresses pure Loire character: bright red and black cherry, mineral tannins, vivid acidity, and exceptional freshness.
Cellared Says
One of my favorite producers from the Loire, the wines are simply excellent. Seek out the Savennieres but in the mean time this Cab Franc from his Anjou vineyard produces wines packed with damson, ripe red cherry, and just a bit of the Cab Franc spice without any greenness. Its utterly delicious, excellent with a couple of extra years in the cellar, and as I’m writing this thinking maybe I shouldn’t put them up for sale.
Wine Reviews
“Fresh cherry, redcurrant, damson and rhubarb lifted with florals, juicy entry and savoury, earthy layers.”
