The Wine

Lethbridge has long been one of Geelong's benchmark producers, with Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis building a reputation for site-driven wines that combine regional character with a distinctly Burgundian sensibility. While the estate vineyards at Lethbridge and Henty remain central to the range, the Suma Park bottling showcases fruit sourced from the historic Suma Park vineyard near Bannockburn.

The site sits on volcanic and basalt-derived soils that have become synonymous with some of Geelong's finest Pinot Noir. The 2023 vintage provided a long, moderate growing season, allowing fruit to ripen steadily while retaining freshness and aromatic detail.

Fruit is hand-picked, with a proportion of whole bunches included depending on parcel and vintage conditions. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts before maturation in French oak barriques, carefully managed to support rather than dominate the fruit. The resulting wine reflects both the generosity of the vintage and the savoury complexity that has become a hallmark of Geelong Pinot Noir.

Cellared Says

Geelong continues to fly slightly under the radar compared to the Yarra and Mornington, which suits me just fine. Suma Park has all the ingredients Pinot lovers are looking for: perfume, spice, savoury complexity and genuine site character. A seriously smart bottle at the money. Good story, Ray doesn’t just get his barrels for the single vineyard from one cooper. Oh no, he gets the wood from a single tree and gets all the barrels made from the same wood. The result, the SV wines are a truer expression of vineyard site without any barrel variation. Dedication.

Reviews
