The Wine

From the historic Balgownie Vineyard, these 1970-planted Cabernet Sauvignon vines yield a wine of both gravitas and poise. Crafted by Joshua Cooper, the 2022 vintage was fermented open-top after gentle foot-crushing and aged 12 months in new and seasoned Stockinger and Bordeaux oak.

Cellared Says

Refined, elegant and compelling— Balgownie 2022 is structured yet fragrant, with iron-tinged cassis and violet, and tannins that promise graceful cellaring into mid-century. BUT. It won’t get that far I doubt, this is a classic in the making, blindingly clear, vivid and bright, its a joy to drink now. Making Cabernet Great Again!

Wine Reviews

“Black pepper, blackberry and bramble on the nose. Brooding yet seamless, with mineral charm, cool acid, herbal savouriness and a refreshing finish. Fine, fine wine—watch it go.”
96+ Points – Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

“Incredibly refined and complex—iron, sweet cassis, cedar spice, violet and rose, with wave upon wave of Cabernet fruit and poised, nuanced tannins. Complete.”
97 Points – Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
