Joshua Cooper Balgownie Old Vines Cabernet 2024

$94.00

Region: Bendigo / Central Victoria, Australia
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage: 2024

The Wine
From historic Balgownie Vineyard planted in 1970 at Maiden Gully, this Cabernet grows on ironstone and shale soils. The 2024 is fermented naturally and aged in a mix of new Stockinger oak (30%) and seasoned barriques before a further four months in steel. Dark and perfumed, it shows violet, cassis and graphite aromas with deep black fruit, cedar and fine chalky tannins. It balances elegance with age-worthy power.

Cellared Says
A modern Australian Cabernet of rare grace – complex, layered, and beautifully structured. From old vines and a winemaker at the peak of his craft. Loved the 2023 and the ‘24 is right up there. How Australian Cabernet should be. Highly recommended. Drink 2026–2038.

Wine Reviews
“One of the best young Cabernets I’ve seen from Australia … complex, layered, nuanced, understated and gorgeous to drink now, with an immense future.”
