Joh. Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel 2023

$305.00

Region: Mosel, Germany
Variety: Riesling
Vintage: 2023

The Wine
Sourced from select parcels within the Badstube vineyard, with berries harvested at Auslese ripeness and marked by noble rot. The Goldkapsel denotes a higher level of selection, with greater concentration and intensity. Aged in large oak casks for slow evolution.

Prüm produced only a tiny quantity of Goldkapsel in 2023, (it’s only made in the very best of vintages) the result of multiple vineyard passes and draconian selection at just the right ripeness. This rare style is a clear step up in power, weight and longevity, with around a third of the fruit affected by beautiful, noble botrytis.

Katharina Prüm describes them as “limited-edition, small-production lots of the best Auslese of a vintage.” Concentrated, botrytis-tinged grapes yield wines of remarkable depth, capable of aging for decades. Over time, their initial richness evolves into elegance, harmony, and profound complexity.

For collectors, they are a rare jewel: wines that seemingly last forever, growing only more graceful with time.

Cellared Says
Golden and opulent. Layers of mango, peach compote, citrus peel and candied spice unfold, balanced by crystalline acidity and immense depth. A true collector’s Auslese.

Wine Reviews

“Welcome to the exotic fruit store, where the piles of papayas, passion fruit and mangosteens reach for the heavens. Who could resist this unbound sensuality? Yet the wine remains super precise on the medium- to full-bodied palate. The finish has so much power and drive (also from acidity) but is as fresh and clear as a mountain stream. Drink or hold.” 97 points, Stuart Pigott, Jamessuckling.com

“The 2023 Riesling Bernkasteler Badstube Auslese Goldkapsel features a touch of mango on the nose, leading into vivid peach compote. The palate tempers this with citrus, a hint of candied angelica and a gorgeous frisson of pepper. Sweet yet utterly balanced and deliciously tart.”
