The Wine
From Grosset’s elevated Gaia vineyard—Clare Valley’s highest sit e—this 2023 vintage combines Cabernet Sauvignon (majority) with Cabernet Franc. Planted on rugged slopes with minimal intervention, the vines yield concentrated fruit marked by elegance and structure. The result is a terroir-driven red that balances density with lift and age-worthiness.
Cellared Says
This was a standout at the recent 2025 Riesling launch. Such a seductive and compelling wine, stunning acidity that feel alive. Compact yet powerful, its core of blackcurrant and cassis is lit by bright redcurrant and violet notes. Impressively seamless powder-fine tannins wrap around the fruit, underlined by cool acidity. Cool is the word. The wine feels poised: muscular yet graceful, built for both immediate pleasure and multi-decade cellaring—a stellar Gaia that marries finesse with longevity. Simply excellent. Thank you to Jeffery for the bottle of 2022 which also was looking stunning.
Wine Reviews
“Deep ruby laced with purple and a lovely cedar and cassis bouquet… seriously elegant, with bright and penetrating flavour, fruit leading the way, with raspberry… a sheen of fine powdery tannins running the full length of the palate. Great potential.”
96 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review
“The cool, low‑yielding 2023 harvest has presented Grosset’s lofty, exposed Gaia vineyard in particularly captivating and dramatic detail! A compact and dense core of blackcurrant and cassis is lifted with bright redcurrant fruit, violet fragrance and accented with classic varietal markers of tobacco leaf and cigar box that linger very long and confident… powder‑fine, mineral tannin structure, woven intricately with cool acidity… graceful finesse and monumental longevity.”
