The Wine

Monvigliero is the jewel of Verduno — a site revered for its aromatic lift, silken tannins and crystalline structure. Fratelli Alessandria’s 2021 captures everything that makes this MGA so compelling: rose petal, wild strawberry, orange peel and fine spice layered over precise, mineral-driven structure. This is Barolo at its most perfumed and refined.

Cellared Says

Monvigliero is for those who love Barolo’s fragrance as much as its power. The 2021 is beautifully composed — red fruits, dried herbs and subtle spice wrapped in ultra-fine tannins. There is intensity here, but it floats rather than pushes. A superb cellar addition with decades ahead of it. The 2021’s keep delivering.

Wine Reviews

“Haunting aromatics… striking precision and vertical intensity. A beautifully sculpted Monvigliero.”
96 Points – Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

The 2021 Barolo Monvigliero is one of the best wines I have tasted from Fratelli Alessandria in some time. The aromatics alone are haunting in their beauty. Rose petal, tangerine peel, cinnamon, kirsch, pomegranate and mint explode from the glass. Beams of supporting tannin give the wine its vertical build. This is such a promising Barolo. It could very well turn out to be one of the wines of the vintage. Tasted Jan 2025.
