Domenica Estate Shiraz 2025
Region: Victoria
Sub Region: Beechworth
Variety: Shiraz
Country: Australia
Vintage: 2025
The Wine
Domenica occupies a cool, elevated site on a granite ridge south-west of Beechworth. Peter Graham established the estate after more than a decade working alongside Rick Kinzbrunner at Giaconda, pursuing a restrained style built around vineyard character, indigenous fermentation and traditional élevage rather than overt ripeness.
The Estate Shiraz comes from 30-year-old, cane-pruned vines on a steep, south-facing slope at approximately 450 metres. The cooler exposure lengthens ripening, while the decomposed granite soils produce the firm mineral texture and peppery savouriness that distinguish Beechworth Shiraz from warmer regional expressions.
The 2025 is medium to full bodied, with a deep core of fruit supported by violet, earth and white pepper. Ripe but structured tannins provide the wine with early presence while preserving the tension and architecture required for long ageing.
Cellared Says
The Estate wine is the more serious and cellar-driven of Domenica’s two Shirazes. Where Warner Vineyard offers flesh and earlier charm, the south-facing estate site brings greater tension, tannin and mineral definition. It is one of the clearest examples of the sophisticated direction contemporary Australian Shiraz has taken. It is simply excellent, a highly focused vinous treat and very approachable now but will reward a few years in the cellar.
