Domaine Ponsot Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants Blanc Vieilles Vignes 2022

$730.00

Region: Morey-Saint-Denis, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy
Variety: Aligoté (Vieilles Vignes, majority planted 1911)
Vintage: 2022

The Wine

A uniquely Burgundian treasure: a Premier Cru monopole planted entirely to ancient Aligoté. The Clos sits high on the slope on grèzes litées over white oolite and Dijon-Corton limestone, producing a wine of striking minerality.
Fermented in tank and neutral oak (10–60 years old) with an extended élevage. In 2022, malolactic fermentation had not occurred at the time of review and may never complete—typical for this cuvée, preserving cut and tension.
The result is a white Burgundy of remarkable complexity, purity and age-worthiness.

Cellared Says

Wow, so Aligote really can reach spectacular heights! One of Burgundy’s most distinctive whites. Mineral, long, textural and profound—Aligoté elevated to grand Cru complexity. This sits right at the top of the hill on only 20-25cm of soil, these wines work hard to gain nutrients and produce tiny quantities of fruit, richly textural, bright and complex. Brilliant. Only one bottle.

Wine Reviews

“Pure, clean colour with a complex bouquet of lime blossom, greengage and earthier notes. A crisp mineral thread and a superb, lively finish. Fuller than 2021 but just as good.”
Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy – 94–96 Points

“Reductive bouquet of lime zest, green apple, white flowers and baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, incisive, tangy and mineral with impressive depth.”
William Kelley, Robert Parker – 92–94 Points
