Domaine de la Roche Paradis Côte-Rôtie 'Rozier' 2022
Region: Northern Rhône, France
Variety: Syrah
Vintage: 2022
The Wine
Crafted from 100% Syrah grown in the esteemed Rozier lieu-dit of Côte Brune, this wine benefits from a southwest exposition and 21-year-old vines rooted in schist and iron oxide-rich clay soils. Fermented with approximately 50% whole bunches and matured for 13 months in seasoned barriques, the 2022 vintage offers a fresh and aromatic style of Côte-Rôtie. It harkens back to the elegance and perfume of traditional expressions, with a lovely mid-palate volume and a long, complex finish framed by fine, silky tannins and refreshing acidity.
Cellared Says
After 17 years as vineyard manager for Yves Cuilleron, Yann Menager quietly launched his own domaine, based high above Saint-Joseph in the hamlet of Champailler. With deep knowledge of the Northern Rhône’s finest terroirs, he’s assembled just 6.5ha of impeccably sited vines across Saint-Joseph, Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie.
Working from a tiny stone winery on his family farm beneath the aptly named Roche Paradis, Yann crafts minuscule quantities of wine—typically just 5 to 10 barrels of each cuvée. Everything is done by hand: organic farming, low yields, native yeast fermentations, and no new oak.
The result? Quietly brilliant, terroir-driven wines of finesse, energy and precision. The kind of Rhône wines we wish more people made—though with almost all of it snapped up by top restaurants in Lyon, they’re rarely seen beyond the region. Until now.
An homage to the classic Côte-Rôtie style, this wine balances depth and elegance, showcasing the purity of Syrah from a distinguished terroir. Its aromatic complexity and refined structure make it a compelling addition to any cellar.
