Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié 2022 (1500ml)
Region: Beaujolais
Sub Region: Fleurie, Poncié
Variety: Gamay
Country: France
Vintage: 2022
Format: 1500ml Magnum
The Wine
Poncié is one of Fleurie’s celebrated high-slope terroirs and the source of Domaine Chermette’s most perfumed and graceful Cru Beaujolais. This release comes from a 4.5-hectare parcel of approximately 45-year-old vines rooted in the site’s distinctive pink granite soils.
The winemaking remains resolutely traditional. Whole bunches ferment naturally in large concrete vats before the wine matures in large, seasoned foudres. There is no attempt to polish away the vineyard’s character or cover its floral Gamay perfume with new oak.
The concentrated 2022 vintage gives the wine additional depth, yet Poncié’s natural lift remains intact. Rose, peony and orange blossom lead into raspberry, cherry and pink grapefruit. Silky fruit is balanced by bright citrus-toned acidity, fine granitic tannins and a savoury, mineral finish.
The magnum format gives the wine an ideal environment for gradual development while retaining its aromatic freshness.
Cellared Says
This is quintessential Fleurie: perfumed, silky and lifted, but with more concentration and ageing potential than the delicate reputation of the appellation sometimes suggests. The magnum is perfect for a long lunch now, although it will become increasingly savoury and complex with time.
Serve lightly cool with charcuterie, duck, roast chicken or glazed pork. Drink now–2035.
