The Wine

Classified as a Third Growth in 1855 but long regarded as one of the Médoc’s greatest estates, Château Palmer occupies a singular position in Margaux. Its unusually high proportion of Merlot brings generosity and velvet to the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, while Petit Verdot supplies perfume and spice.

The 2016 season moved from a mild winter and exceptionally wet spring into a stable, dry summer that enabled slow, complete ripening. Harvest was among the latest in Palmer’s history, running from 3 to 18 October. Despite modest yields, the grapes possessed remarkable aromatic intensity and powerful, fully mature tannins.

The final blend is 47% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, matured for approximately 21 months in roughly 60–65% new French oak. Cassis, black cherry and blueberry meet violet, peony, graphite, cigar box, sandalwood and dark chocolate. The palate is deep and expansive, yet the concentration is delivered through exceptionally fine tannins and Palmer’s unmistakably velvety texture.

Pre-arrival offer: This wine has been secured through La Place de Bordeaux, with delivery expected in May–June 2027. Pricing will increase once the wine arrives in Australia. Cellared Says

Direct from the Chateau’s cellars, this 2026 La Place release is perfectly cellared with exceptional provenance. This is Palmer at its most complete: floral and sensual, but with the spine and longevity of a great Left Bank vintage. A decade of ageing has begun to reveal its texture, although the wine remains at the start of a very long life. Allow several hours in a decanter if opening now. Drink from 2026 through 2065.
