The Wine
Sourced from the same site as the Sangreal Pinot Noir, the By Farr Chardonnay vines were planted in 1994 on red soil over limestone. The vineyard lies on a very exposed north-facing slope, with limestone starting 20 to 30cm below the surface, extending into the root zone of the vines. The clones used for the Chardonnay are a mixture of Dijon clones and Penfolds 58.
Cellared Says
A refined and structured Chardonnay showcasing the unique terroir of the vineyard. This is classy, rich yet mineral styled Chardonnay with exception oak elvage. Lovely wine, super appealing, the wine I wanted to just keep coming back to at the recent release tastings. You could pitch this up against some serious Burgundy and be pleasantly surprised.
