Benjamin & David Duclaux Côte-Rôtie “La Chana” 2021
Region: Côte-Rôtie, Northern Rhône, France
Varietal: Syrah with Viognier
Vintage: 2021
The Wine
Brothers Benjamin and David Duclaux manage their small family domaine in Tupin, at the southern end of Côte-Rôtie. Their holdings focus on steep granite terraces with old Syrah and a touch of Viognier. The “La Chana” cuvée comes from 20- to 30-year-old vines on mica-schist soils. Grapes are hand-harvested, co-fermented with whole clusters in cement vats, and aged for 18 months in oak barrels (20% new). It is designed as an approachable yet authentic expression of Côte-Rôtie, offering aromatic charm and early drinking pleasure while retaining aging potential.
Cellared Says
A fragrant and elegant Côte-Rôtie—violets, redcurrant and bright cherry laced with spice and graphite. Silky and precise, this is a finely tuned wine of finesse rather than sheer weight, balancing purity with complexity. This was a standout wine in a blind tasting we conducted recently. It is so fragrant, jumping from the glass and pulling you back in. Utterly delicious. Yes it will cellar well but I’m not sure its worth the wait when the pay off is so big right now. Jump in…
Wine Reviews
“An easy-going and fragrant expression of Côte-Rôtie… has good palate weight and brisk acidity. Not hugely concentrated or long, but well balanced. Fine tannins are gently built and the alcohol is low.”
