Bannockburn Winery Block Chardonnay 2024
Region: Geelong, Victoria, Australia
Variety: Chardonnay
Vintage: 2024
The Wine
From the foundational Chardonnay block planted in 1981 which shaped Bannockburn’s house style. Whole-bunch pressed, wild-yeast-fermented in French hogsheads (~40% new), 100% malolactic, and ten months on lees. Fruit was picked in multiple passes to capture complexity across ripening phases.
Cellared Says
Textural, harmonious, and arrestingly pure—white peach, citrus, subtle struck-match and a saline finish with fine chalky acidity. This was a star in the recent tasting, having soaked up the oak a little more than the Grigsby. Its a stunning wine, big on attack yet refined and oh so long.
Wine Reviews
“Light‑medium yellow colour with a rich and toasty/oaky bouquet that enshrines nougat, roasted hazelnuts and creamy lees‑derived facets. A very complex Chardonnay, full and rich and generous in the mouth with a long‑lasting aftertaste. A ripping Chardonnay.”
96 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review
“This is stellar. It’s a wine of both power and length and with a bit of extra character as well. Apples, peaches, slips of pear skin and nuts… ripped with muscle and energy. Touch and go for 96. In any case it’s superb.”
