The Wine

Meaning “of the earth”, De La Terre comes from a 1.78-acre, high-density vineyard planted beside Serré in 2007. Its predominantly clone 777 vines, with a smaller component of clone 114, are planted at approximately 8,333 vines per hectare on dark clay over basalt and limestone. The exposed site receives abundant light and is generally harvested ahead of Serré.

Certified organic since 2021, De La Terre is divided between a flatter, north–south section and an east-facing slope planted across the contour. This variation in aspect contributes both ripeness and aromatic lift. The 2025 spent 13 days on skins with a portion of whole clusters, followed by ten months in French oak hogsheads, around 30% new.

The wine is high-toned and detailed, opening with red cherry, dried herbs, incense and floral spice. Cherry cola and blood orange bring brightness, while Campari-like bitterness, mineral acidity and finely layered tannins give the palate definition. Its concentration appears as persistence and detail rather than sheer weight.

Cellared Says

If Serré is Bannockburn’s established old master, De La Terre is the sharper, more agile younger voice. It feels redder-fruited, more aromatic and immediately intricate, yet there is real structure beneath the silk. One of the most refined wines in the 2025 release and a particularly persuasive expression of high-density Australian Pinot Noir.

Reviews

“This puts on such an exceptional display of finesse… a wine that is not so much crafted as laced.”
