Au Bon Climat Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 2023
Region: Santa Barbara County, California
Variety: Chardonnay
Country: USA
Vintage: 2023
The Wine
Au Bon Climat, founded in 1982 by Jim Clendenen—often called the “Godfather” of Santa Barbara continues its Burgundian style with this 2023 Chardonnay. Grapes were handpicked from five premier vineyards (Bien Nacido, Los Alamos, Rancho Real, Gold Coast, North Canyon), whole-bunch pressed, cold-settled, then barrel-fermented and aged eight months sur lie in neutral François Frères. The result is an elegant, mineral-driven style with balance and freshness, but not without richness and restrained power.
Cellared says
A stylish, food-friendly Chardonnay: crisp citrus, green apple, oyster-shell minerality, soft brioche texture, and bright acidity. Complex yet restrained—true to the region's best.
Wine Reviews
“Sophisticated and polished aromas of flint, stone fruit, lemon curd and beeswax… medium-bodied with a creamy texture… laser-like acidity… exceptional poise and balance.”
97 Points – James Suckling
