Aphelion ‘Rapture’ Grenache 2024

$135.00

Region: McLaren Vale
Sub Region: Blewitt Springs
Variety: Grenache
Country: Australia
Vintage: 2024

The Wine

Rapture is the pinnacle of Rob and Louise Mack’s Grenache-focused Aphelion range, assembled from the most compelling parcels and vessels of the vintage. Production in 2024 was limited to just 1,100 bottles, making this one of McLaren Vale’s more elusive flagship Grenaches.

The warm, dry 2024 season delivered healthy, concentrated fruit, but Rapture remains notably light on its feet. Gentle handling, large-format seasoned oak and considered use of whole bunches preserve perfume and site character. Bottled at 13.9% alcohol under Diam, the wine is unfined, unfiltered and vegan.

Pale to vibrant purple in the glass, it begins with rose petals, raspberry, sour cherry, blood orange and graphite. Cold tea, green olive, cardamom and earthy spice emerge with air. Sandy, flavour-soaked tannins give the wine formidable shape, while cherry-pip bitterness and fresh acidity keep the long, savoury finish alive. It benefits enormously from decanting and will become more expressive with bottle age.

Cellared Says

There is no shortage of pale, perfumed McLaren Vale Grenache, but Rapture has greater ambition. It combines fragrance and transparency with genuine tannin, muscle and staying power. Give it a large glass and plenty of air if opening now—or cellar it and allow it to resolve into something even more compelling,
