Sami-Odi Little Wine #12 Syrah NV
Region: Barossa Valley, South Australia
Variety: Syrah (Shiraz)
Vintage: Multi-Vintage (NV)
Country: Australia
The Wine
Little Wine #12 continues Sami-Odi’s uncompromising small-batch philosophy. Fruit is sourced from the Hoffmann Dallwitz vineyard, including vines planted from the late 1990s back to pre-1912 material — some of the oldest Syrah plantings in Australia.
The blend for #12 comprises:
• 2022 (49%)
• 2021 (23%)
• 2020 (11%)
• 2019 (8%)
• 2018 (1%)
• 2017 (4%)
• 2016 (2%)
• 2015 (2%)
Whole-bunch fermentation, wild yeasts and maturation in seasoned vessels preserve aromatic lift and tannin precision. The approach emphasises structure and vineyard voice rather than overt richness.
Cellared Says
Scarcity here is structural, not marketing.
Sami-Odi maintains a waiting list numbering in the tens of thousands. Allocations are tiny. Bottles frequently trade above release price once in the open market.
But beyond the cult following, the wine delivers. Perfumed red and blue fruits, spice, savoury depth and remarkable composure. Plush yet refined, with a fine tannin lattice that promises longevity.
One of Australia’s most chased Syrah releases.
Wine Reviews
Fresh and bright but with a little bit of benign decay creeping in with tobacco, light char, clove, amongst tart plum, raspberry liquorice, loads of white pepper and some alpine herb elements, blood orange tang. Chewy tannins sit around everything, a fine, slate-like chisel and pucker with each sip. Serious wine, but Little! Drink 2025-2035
