Sami-Odi Little Wine #10 Syrah NV
Region: Barossa Valley, South Australia
Variety: Syrah (Shiraz)
Vintage: Multi-Vintage (NV)
Country: Australia
The Wine
Sami-Odi, led by Fraser McKinley, has become one of Australia’s most cult and allocated producers. Working primarily with fruit from the historic Hoffmann Dallwitz vineyard in the northern Barossa — including parcels of very old vines — the estate focuses on site transparency, whole-bunch fermentation and minimal cellar intervention.
Little Wine #10 is a multi-vintage assemblage built from multiple barrels and multiple harvests:
• 2020 (51%)
• 2019 (31%)
• 2018 (3%)
• 2017 (8%)
• 2016 (5%)
• 2015 (2%)
Fermented with a high proportion of whole bunches using indigenous yeasts, the wine is matured in seasoned oak to avoid overt wood influence. The aim is clarity of fruit, tannin shape and energy rather than extraction or polish.
The multi-vintage approach allows structural blending while maintaining a clear vintage signature — a concept more akin to grower Champagne than traditional Australian Shiraz.
Cellared Says
This is modern Australian cult wine in the truest sense.
Tiny volumes. A years-long waiting list just to join the mailing list. Immediate allocation sell-outs. And strong secondary market demand through auction channels.
The wine itself is pure Barossa Syrah — red and blue fruits, cracked pepper, savoury herbs and fine-boned tannins. It drinks with remarkable fluidity, yet carries serious depth and age-worthiness.
Collectors chase these for good reason.
Wine Reviews
Exceptional length, never ending, gently palate-staining and rippling with piquant spice dusted on dark, brooding, inky fruit character. Amazing wine anyway you come at it.
