Rockford Basket Press Shiraz 2016
Region: Barossa Valley
Sub Region: Barossa (multi-site)
Variety: Shiraz
Country: Australia
Vintage: 2016
The Wine
As with all Basket Press releases, the 2016 is built from selected parcels of established Barossa Shiraz from long-standing grower families, fermented and pressed using Rockford’s traditional methods and matured for around two years in seasoned French and American oak. The wine sits at the centre of Rockford’s reputation for preserving the old Barossa style: hand-picked fruit, open-ferment winemaking, traditional equipment and a refusal to chase gloss at the expense of character. Basket Press is Rockford’s flagship wine and one of Australia’s most sought-after traditional Shiraz bottlings.
Cellared Says
A very smart Basket Press vintage. It has all the familiarity and warmth people love about the label, but with enough shape and control to make it equally satisfying at table or in the cellar.
Reviews
James Halliday, 97 points.
James Suckling, 96 points — Suckling described it as ripe, composed and flavourful, with the classic Basket Press markers of blackberry, earth, leather, cedar, tar and supple tannins
