Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne Montrachet Vieilles Vignes 2023

$335.00

Region: Burgundy
Sub Region: Chassagne-Montrachet
Variety: Chardonnay
Country: France
Vintage: 2023

The Wine

This cuvée is drawn from four parcels totalling approximately 0.75 hectares, located on the northern side of Chassagne close to the Puligny border. These sites sit on deeper soils with a higher clay content, contributing more mid-palate weight than higher-slope sites.

The “Vieilles Vignes” designation reflects older vine material across these parcels, delivering greater concentration and extract.

Winemaking follows the domaine’s precise, reductive approach: whole-bunch pressing, indigenous yeast fermentation in 350L barrels, minimal new oak and long élevage on lees without bâtonnage. The reductive handling and controlled oxygen exposure are key to the wine’s tension and ageing potential.

Cellared Says

This is where Chassagne starts to show real depth. There’s more weight here than Saint-Aubin, but PYCM keeps it in check. Proper village Burgundy with intent.

Reviews

A blend of three vineyards on the Puligny side of the appellation, the 2023 ChassagneMontrachet Vieilles Vignes has a slightly reductive bouquet that makes it difficult to read at the moment. The palate is well balanced with a tangy orange rind-tinged opening and lovely weight in the mouth, as lilting clementine and apricot notes mix with citrus peel toward the harmonious finish. This will be delicious.

(90-92) points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media, November 2024.
