Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra Casa Matè 2021
Region: Monforte d’Alba, Barolo DOCG
Variety: Nebbiolo
Country: Italy
Vintage: 2021
The Wine
From the broad, cooler Ginestra site at 300–350 m elevation, this single-vineyard Barolo is picked slightly earlier than Chiniera, taking advantage of the clay-rich vineyard soils to retain freshness despite the warmer 2021 season. Whole-berry fermentation with submerged cap for up to 52 days yields a layered textural profile. Aged for two years in large Slavonian oak botti, the wine shows balsamic herb, dark plum and violet notes balanced by bright acidity and firm yet ripe tannins.
Cellared Says
Structural yet refined, this Barolo melds brooding black cherry and spice with a sinewy mineral backbone. Best cellared, but already captivating for its aromatic precision, balance, and lifted fruit power.
Wine Reviews
“Bright and transparent, with captivating depth… enveloping balsamic notes… Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and blood orange all come alive in the glass.”
97 Points – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
“The 2021 displays a bit more ruby and deeper pigment… raspberry liqueur, sweet sage, pressed flowers, cedar, and licorice… long finish.”
97 Points – Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck
