Egly-Ouriet 1er Cru “Les Vignes de Bisseuil” NV (Base 2019; Disg. Oct 2024)
Region: Champagne
Variety: Chardonnay-led blend (approx. 70% CH, 15% PN, 15% PM)
Vintage: NV
Country: France
The Wine
Vintages: 2019 (50%), 2018 (30%), 2017 (30%)
Bottling: 2020 · Disgorgement: July 2024 · Time on lees: 48 months
Blend: 70% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir, 15% Meunier · Dosage: 2 g/L
Debuting in 2022, this is the third release of Egly’s sole Chardonnay-dominant cuvée—and the second to fold in three vintages. It’s drawn from a south-facing plot in Bisseuil, just east of Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. While those two villages are Pinot country, Bisseuil is the outlier—the only village in the area with more Chardonnay than Pinot Noir.
Egly’s Bisseuil holding spans 1.5 hectares across two lieux-dits, now farmed by the family for more than seven years (acquired by Francis and Annick in anticipation of Clémence and Charles joining the domaine). Average vine age sits around 40 years. Les Vignes de Bisseuil was vinified in barrel and rested four years in the cellar before disgorgement.
In the glass, the Egly touch meets Chardonnay: waves of orchard fruit, white flowers, fresh butter and almond oil. There’s ample richness and texture, yet the wine is bright and energetic, finishing with a powdery, pithy snap. Vinosity, complexity and tension—hallmarks of this great grower—are all here.
Cellared Says
Egly purity in a fresher, more tensile key—laser-etched citrus and chalk. A brilliant “doorway” into the house style with serious ageing potential. Every Cellar needs Egly…
Wine Reviews
“Heavily based on Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier, all vinified in oak, it derives from a south-facing site on chalky soils in Bisseuil. Wafting from the glass with aromas of fresh citrus fruit, bread crust and crisp pear, it is medium- to full-bodied and concentrated yet racy and fresh, with notable cut and a chalky profile, concluding with a long, precise finish. Just like Egly's grand cru bottlings, this too will richly reward patience.”

“The NV (2019) Les Vignes de Bisseuil is superb. Baked apple tart, white flower, tangerine oil, slate and sage all race across the palate. Deceptive at first in its light-bodied, airy feel, the 2019 opens beautifully in the glass, revealing myriad shades of nuance and tons of finesse to match. I love this for its dimension, breadth and complexity. Dosage is 1 gram per liter.”
