Variety: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2022

The Wine

Cuvée des Grives (“the thrush”) is one of Domaine Ponsot’s historic wines, with the first crop harvested in 1872. It comes from a tiny 0.35-hectare plot located just above the domaine’s Petit Château in the highest village-classified section of Monts Luisants. Sitting at 350 metres, surrounded by forest influence and planted on extremely rocky Comblanchien limestone scree, this is nothing like a typical village-level Morey.
The altitude creates a long ripening season; the forest brings shade and cool airflow; the limestone soils give spice, perfume and mineral line. Fermentation is gentle, extraction minimal, with élevage for 14 months in old barrels averaging 20 years. The result is an elegant, aromatic and mineral expression—Morey seen through a high-altitude, forest-edged lens.

Cellared Says

One of the most distinctive, and indeed quality village wines in Burgundy— super perfumed, red-fruited punch, savoury fine tannins and wonderfully mineral. A wine of place, not winemaking. You can feel/taste the boarding forest that lies around the vineyard.

Again only one bottle.

Wine Reviews

“Notes of red berries, cherries and peonies introduce a medium to full-bodied, bright and vibrant wine with a pure core of fruit and a saline finish. More ethereal than its Gevrey counterpart, deriving from holdings in the upper part of Monts Luisants.”
William Kelley, Robert Parker – 89–91 Points

“Just four barrels made. A bright mid-purple colour. The fruit is less flamboyant than the Gevrey but more nuanced. Sweeter, suaver fruit with acidity well woven into the body. Good length, very promising. Drink 2027–2034.”
Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy – 90–92 Points
