Domaine Ponsot Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Cuvée des Alouettes 2022

$745.00

Region: Morey-Saint-Denis, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy
Variety: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2022

The Wine

Cuvée des Alouettes (“the lark”) comes from the Premier Cru section of Monts Luisants, historically one of the most important climats in the commune, large portions of which form part of today’s Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. Ponsot farms this section exclusively by horse.
Vines were planted in 1994 and 2003 on white oolite limestone, giving the wine its hallmark tension and chalky precision. Traditionally a deeply structured wine that blossoms after a decade, climate evolution has made recent vintages more open and aromatically generous in youth—yet still firmly grounded in Morey’s depth and subtle power.
The 2022 was fermented with Ponsot’s typically gentle extraction and matured in neutral oak for around 18 months on gross lees.

Cellared Says

Elegant, finely structured Premier Cru Morey with beautiful red fruits and limestone tension. Richer than the Les Grives with a rounder tannin profile. Amazing balance and elegance with a real fan to the tail. Always one of Ponsot’s most refined wines, a little Chambolle like. Beautiful.

Wine Reviews

“Quite a tertiary bouquet, with peppermint infusing black fruit and blue fruit emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure and sapid fruit. Tightens toward the finish but has clear ageing potential.”
Neal Martin, Vinous – 92–94 Points

“Vines from 1994 and 2003 on 161/49 rootstock. Vivid bright purple. Slightly finer raspberry fruit than the village. Good tension through the middle with notable acidity and fine length. Will clearly be more graceful than the village cuvée. Drink 2029–2037.”
Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy – 91–94 Points
