Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Forêts 2023

$165.00

Region: Chablis, Burgundy, France
Variety: Chardonnay
Vintage: 2023

The Wine
Forêts, a historic sub-plot of Montmains, is considered one of Chablis’ greatest terroirs. Moreau farms two parcels here: one adjoining Vincent Dauvissat’s vines (60 years old) and another beside Raveneau’s (25 years old). Together they yield under two hectares of organically farmed vines. Fermentation and élevage are carried out in steel and seasoned oak (30%), with extended lees contact of around 20 months. The 2023 vintage shows the site’s trademark power and tension, marrying citrus, beeswax, and chalk with dazzling minerality.

Cellared Says
Forêts is often the insider’s pick at Moreau-Naudet. The 2023 is taut and layered, with precision, depth and superb energy. It is one of the great 1er Crus for collectors and drinkers alike. Lovely stuff. Drink 2027–2038.

Wine Reviews
“Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of beeswax, orange zest and pear, mingling with oyster shell, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and tense, with vibrant acidity and excellent cut. It concludes with a pure, chalky finish. Virginie Moreau admits that in recent years she has given a slight preference to Forêts over the expressiveness of Vaillons. Readers will be able to make their own conclusions, as both wines come warmly recommended.”
92–94 Points – Kristaps Karklins, The Wine Advocate

“Beautiful, quite direct an even a silkiness to these aromas – love it! Extra mineral width panoramic – gorgeously flavoured – very mineral. Much as I loved the Montmains, that’s a greater wine – bravo! Probably for bottling in June.”
