Domaine de l'Arlot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru 'Les Suchots' 2022
Region: Vosne-Romanée, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Variety: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2022
Farming: Certified Organic
Winemaking: 100% destemmed, indigenous yeast fermentation, aged in 40% new French oak barrels
The Wine
From a prime 0.85-hectare parcel in the esteemed Les Suchots vineyard, situated between Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg.
Domaine de l’Arlot, based in Prémeaux-Prissey near Nuits-Saint-Georges, has long been known for its refined, terroir expressive style. Under the guidance of winemaker Géraldine Godot, the estate has reached new heights, with every cuvée reflecting a clear sense of place. Les Suchots, a jewel in the domaine’s holdings, is farmed biodynamically and tended with exacting detail to ensure the fruit captures both ripeness and energy.
The wine is made with a high percentage of whole bunches, bringing aromatic lift and structure, and aged in French oak barrels with a thoughtful balance between new and used wood. Fermentation is spontaneous, and intervention is kept to a minimum.
Cellared Says
A serious and structured Les Suchots, one of our favorite Crus, is perfect to put away in the cellar for a few years. It’s already voluptuous, finely detailed and incredibly complex, further aging will bring out its fruit lift that’s already forming. One of the best 2022’s I’ve tried to date. Excellent.
Reviews
“The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru, matured in 40% new oak, is intense on the nose, opulent yet controlled with mainly red berry fruit, allspice and rose petal scents, just a hint of black olive emerging with time. Very well-defined. The medium-bodied palate comes armed with a voluptuous entry, almost viscous in texture, intense yet delineated with a gradual build to its sweet and detailed finish. This will require four to five years to open for business, but it is certainly a 'serious' Les Suchots with a wonderful spicy edge.”
93–95 points — Neal Martin, Vinous
A crimson to purple colour. The bouquet has refinement along with a sense of structure. The bouquet builds steadily to show a high-class red berry fruit, alpine strawberries. Very complete across the palate with an excellent tensile strength, and a very nicely constructed finish. Nothing too soft here. The strawberries return in full force after the refined tannins.92-95 points - Jasper Morris MW insideburgundy.com
