The Wine
From the famed Côte Vineyard at Bannockburn, planted in 1994 on volcanic soils over limestone, the 2024 GC Chardonnay by Farr is a standout cool-climate white. Whole-bunch pressed, wild yeast fermented, matured in 30% new French oak barrels and nine to eleven months on lees, the wine offers expressive aromas of white peach, citrus zest, chamomile and fine minerality. The palate is tight yet generous: rich fruit meets structural acidity, texture meets finesse, and a saline finish anchors it firmly in the vineyard’s limestone pedigree.

Cellared Says
Chardonnay of poise and purpose, svelte, lithe with great fruit power The 2024 GC displays layered complexity without heavy oak baggage—a wine for drinkers who savour nuance and length. A serious wine this, but still with huge appeal. Excellent. Drink 2025–2033.

Wine Reviews
“Of the ‘23: Bright and shiny light to mid yellow colour; roasted hazelnut and lemon curd aromas, a suggestion of marzipan or almond. The wine is intense and precise on the palate, beautifully focused and concentrated yet with great poise and finesse, the finish powering long with a cleansing, refreshing follow-through. Beautiful chardonnay, with great potential.”
